|background & history|
|Eric Jonathan Knight was born in 1880, the youngest son in a large family. Though his parents and some of his siblings were born in the US, Eric was born in Britain when his family relocated there in 1865 for a fresh start after his father served as a doctor to the wounded in the Civil War. As the youngest, Eric was the darling of the family, and was doted on by his parents and all his older brothers and sisters, including eldest brother Benjamin, 25 years Eric's senior.
When Eric was five-years-old, Benjamin was presumably murdered, and unable to handle the grief of living in the same city where their son had been taken so tragically, their parents moved the family back to the US, where they settled near New York City.
As Eric grew up, the young boy who was everybody's pet quickly developed into a bit of a troublemaker, but with a charm that tended to keep him from facing too many consequences along the way. The older he got, the more Eric became convinced of his invincibility, and the more reckless he became. In his early twenties, he got involved with what he thought was a small boozing ring. Prohibition wasn't yet in full swing, but there were many "dry" areas along the way, and rather than take a respectable job as both parents begged him to do, Eric found himself making illegal alcohol runs throughout the area, even daring to cross state lines.
However, the small operation he thought he was involved in was only the tip of the iceberg of a huge crime racket, run by the Italian Lorenzi family, with patriarch Donato Lorenzi at the helm. His son, Marcello, headed up all of the liquor delivery operations, and was Eric's boss for the better part of 10 years. Until Eric's recklessness finally led to his downfall. Or so it would seem.
After a run where Eric ran things just a little too close, and had to dump his load while being pursued by police, Marcello had had it. Eric was too convinced of his own abilities, to the point that the business was suffering, and when the load was lost, and Eric couldn't pay for it, he was lined up against a wall with a few other "associates" and gunned down at Marcello's own hand.
It was as he lay there, very nearly breathing his last, that his brother Ben appeared, completely unchanged from the day he disappeared. Seeing his brother near death, and knowing there was a way to save him, Benjamin took action. Of course, there was no turning back from that, and that night, Eric was Embraced into the Kindred as a member of the Ventrue bloodline, sired by his own brother.
The pair of them left town for a while until Eric was able to control himself and find his feet a bit more, and when he returned to the area, Eric took it upon himself to exact his own revenge on Marcello. The man who'd taken his life had risen to lead the Lorenzi family's liquor business, and with the passing of Prohibition, it was now more in-demand than ever. Eric worked his way up through the Lorenzi organization, starting as a liquor runner, and eventually getting very close to the higher ups. It was through these connections that he became a close friend to fellow gangster, Alistair Lamont, with whom he still remains close.
Ten years to the day after his murder and subsequent Embrace, Eric walked into the office of Marcello Lorenzi, who panicked when he saw his face, recognizing him as someone who'd been dead for a decade. But before he could call for help, Eric emptied an entire round from a silenced machine gun into him, then calmly walked out of his office and went home. From that point on, Eric completely disappeared off the gangster scene, though no one had seen him kill Marcello, and few even knew he had been in his office that day.
In more recent years, Eric has risen up through the ranks, as has always been his way, to become a primogen, on the council of his brother, Benjamin, who has become the Prince of the Ventrue clan, and CEO of his own company, ironically enough, a liquor company. Eric works as his brothers 2IC, both in the Kindred world, and in the company. On the side, he runs his own photography business, and works closely with fellow Ventrue, Lilah Ryckaert, and her marketing company.
His wild and brash side remains intact, though he keeps it far more under control now that he is Kindred, and it is that side of him that may have been his downfall, though he's managed to keep his latest secret under wraps thus far...

|Eric and Toreador Logan Buchanan, a gorgeous Scot sired by the Scottish Prince, met in New York when Logan decided that it was time for him to get out of Scotland for a while. The two met and quickly became lovers, to a level that Logan ended things with his lover in Scotland completely, and made the move to New York a permanent one.
The Kindred, however, rarely if ever have completely faithful relationships with their lovers, and both Logan and Eric were completely aware of the fact that they weren't each other's only partners. So it came as no surprise when Eric developed a keen, if lustful, interest in New York fashion designer, Asher Rose, who not only was physically beautiful, but also fit right into Eric's taste for blood. As a Ventrue, Eric can only feed on one type of person, and his particular taste is in those who have been touched by life-altering illnesses, and Asher slotted right into that.
It was after a party one night, where Eric had been lusting after Asher from afar with Logan teasing him along the way, that Asher left the party very upset. Eric dragged Logan along with him to make sure that the young designer made it home safely, and both of them looked on in shocked horror as Asher threw himself in front of a 4x4 in an attempt to take his own life.
Eric panicked, but as a primogen, and the brother of the Prince, Embracing Asher against his will would be an offense punishable by death. And the fact was, Asher wasn't Ventrue. There was no way he would fit into that bloodline, instead being perfectly suited as a Toreador. So, under Eric's threat of death, Logan Embraced the fashion designer.
What the pair weren't expecting was how strongly Asher would protest, and how difficult it would be to keep up with the newly-Embraced Toreador. It's become a near-full time job, as it's necessary not only to keep an eye on Asher and at least try to help him find his Kindred feet, but also to keep the secret of how and why he was Embraced.
|Within a vampire bloodline known as The Kindred, seven vampire clans are collectively joined, forming the largest sect of vampires called the Camarilla, and survive through the Masquerade, disguising themselves as humans. Camarilla policy is that vampires should try to fit in with and hide from the rest of humanity, as to easily feed on them. For this reason, they created a web of lies and misinformation, called the Masquerade, to make the public believe that supernatural beings like vampires could not possibly exist. The Camarilla also believes that the only way the vampire species can survive in these modern nights is if it unite. Any breach of the Masquerade by any vampire risks exposing the entire race. Both viewpoints are fundamentally opposed by the Sabbat, an opposing sect to the Camarilla. The Camarilla also enforces the Eldest as ruling class over the younger vampires. The seven clans of the Camarilla are Ventrue, Brujah, Malkavian, Toreador, Gangrel, Tremere and Nosferatu. When a human is turned by a Kindred vampire, it is known as the Embrace, the vampire siring the human to embrace them into their own bloodline.
Each city has a ruler, a "Prince" who enforces the laws of The Masquerade that govern them to protect their anonymity. A clan is a group of vampires "related" by blood; i.e. the vampiric equivalent of an extended family or lineage. A clan is usually a large group, acknowledged widely in the vampiric society. Each clan nurture their own characteristics and traits, and each clan has its strengths and weaknesses. Often the clans do not always get along with certain clans such as the Brujah and the Ventrue actually hating one another. Each clan within a given area has a representative, a Primogen, who is usually the eldest and most powerful member of the clan, who attends the leader or prince's advisory council. This status also grants the character social advantages and greater power than being a normal member of their clan.

|The Ventrue are the rulers, leaders and politicos of the Camarilla, sometimes known as the Patrician Clan or the Kingship Clan. In Ancient Rome, they were generals and warlords of the Empire, and in the Dark Ages, they were knights and barons, leading crusades and conquests. In modern times the Ventrue still have great ambition and see themselves as conquerors, but their ways have changed, using courts and companies instead of feifdoms and mighty armies. Targets for Embrace by the Ventrue have always been people in positions of power, whether these people were aristocracy or company CEOs. The Ventrue perceive themselves as the most powerful of the vampiric clans thanks to their wealth, social influence, and powers over the thoughts and feelings of mortals. The clan as a whole is typified as conservative, be it in actions or customs. The Ventrue have their own nigh-inviolable code of etiquette. The clan's Elders have been known to punish violations of these unwritten rules with greater ferocity and resolve than the Traditions of the Camarilla.
The Ventrue claim that ruling vampires is their duty, their burden, a task which is interlocked with their fate. The reality is that excessive pride and ambition seem a more convenient explanation as to why they strive to expand their already vast influence and assert themselves over other Kindred. They tend to be politicians, businessmen, military officers, crime lords, important members of powerful religions, sects and cults. In response to what they perceive as a degeneration of the clan from its noble roots, a smaller segment of the clan has forsworn their ties to the Camarilla to join the Sabbat as antitribu. They believe that greed has led the body of the clan astray from its previous glory, so their quest is for righteous military and tyrannical power over other Kindred to reestablish what they believe to be the proper order. The Camarilla Ventrue casually dismiss their antitribu cousins as idealists doomed to failure. Both Ventrue and Ventrue antitribu refer to themselves as the sole "true" heirs of the name.
In comparison to the other vampiric clans, the Ventrue are considered to be especially particular about whose blood they drink. In fact, any given Ventrue can only drink blood from a specific kind of mortal, or from mortals under a specific sort of circumstance. Some may only prey upon a given ethnicity, while others can only feed from humans of a certain occupation or even religion. Some Ventrue can only find nourishment from blood that carries a more rarefied quality such as anger, fear or innocence. Regardless of the sort of blood the Ventrue requires, other blood is regurgitated or simply cannot be swallowed. They may feed from other Kindred with no such restriction. Ventrue prefer to view this flaw as a matter of refined tastes. Of course, with the power (both supernatural and temporal) most Ventrue possess, few go hungry.
